Get Help To Treat Alcohol Abuse Or Addiction In Your Adolescent

Dealing with alcoholism and drug abuse is difficult. Imagine how difficult it would be if your teenager has to deal with it on his/her own. If you find any hint of such a problem in your young adult, it is time to take immediate action. What are the tell-tale signs? Look out for acrid breath, red puffy eyes, change in attitude, and such others.

Many families think it impossible that their child could ever have such an addiction. Many others think that just love and support from friends and family would be able to take care of the problem. However, both these are misconceptions. Anyone can fall prey to this addiction and abuse, and he/she needs proper treatment for getting rid of it.

Where do you go for help? Alcohol and drug abuse treatments are available on in-patient as well as out-patient basis in Orange County. You can ask your family physician to recommend one. You can look up a facility that offers these treatments from local listings or you can use online resources to find one.

Which option to choose in-patient or out-patient? This is another thing to decide. If your adolescent has a minor drinking problem for a few months, you can choose an out-patient facility. However, if it is a serious problem and your son/daughter is incapable of giving up on the addiction, it is wise to choose a good rehabilitation center.

Leaving their child at a rehab must be quite a nightmare for any parents. This is why you need to choose a center that offers complete adolescent alcohol treatment Orange County you can depend on. How do you make sure that you are choosing the right facility for your ward? Here are a few points to consider.

Is the facility run by qualified, certified and experienced medical professionals? Only if it is, you can be sure of the quality of the treatment your child gets.

Can you find success stories? Check these to know whether the facility was capable of curing others of the same problem your child is facing.

Is the facility clean and hygienic? If the facility fails to take care of such basic things, you had better find another one.

Is the staff at the facility friendly? Whether it is the doctors or the general staff, friendly faces make it easier for your teenager to cope with staying away from home.

Is there a peer group? Support groups always play an important part in getting rid of alcohol abuse and addiction. If there are others with the same problems and trying to find the same solutions, your child may feel motivated enough to join in the endeavor.

Alcohol, drugs, illegal substances can ruin an individuals life. It can cause serious problems like depression, suicidal tendency, and such others. Coping on his/her own may not be possible for an adolescent. He/she needs help. And it is always best for him/her to seek it as soon as possible to avoid the negative impact of alcoholism.

Treatment of Inoperable Heart Disease – TMR

TMR is a new and simple procedure that aids in getting blood and nutrients to the heart muscle, when other methods have not worked or are no longer an option.

When the symptoms of heart disease become so severe that conventional methods for treating it are no longer an option, there are other methods available to treat inoperable heart disease. The most common methods used include, but are not limited to, angioplasty, CABG, and drugs to facilitate blood flow to the heart. If any of these methods fail to relieve the patient of the pain associated with heart disease, then other avenues will need to be instituted.

A relatively new and simple procedure, called TMR, or Transmyocardial Laser Revascularization, is a procedure directed at increasing the blood flow to the heart, that angioplasty and surgery failed to accomplish. A special carbon dioxide (co2) laser is utilized to create small channels in the heart muscle, thereby increasing blood flow.

It can be performed during bypass surgery or alone.

A small incision is made in the chest and the co2 laser is inserted. The surgeon decides how many “channels” he wants to create, usually 20-40 channels the width of the head of a pin. The site for these channels is usually the left ventricle. The outside perimeter of the channels close, while the inside of the channels remain open providing increased blood flow to the heart. the computerized laser beams create the channels in between heartbeats when the ventricle is filled with blood and the heart is not moving. In this manner, any potential electrical disturbances can be avoided. TMR usually takes one to two hours or longer if combined with other procedures.

Doctors are not certain how TMR works to improve improves blood flow, Clinical evidence suggests blood flow is improved greatly for those patients who had tun out of options specific for their disease.

The channels act as blood lines and may promote the growth of new capillaries to feed the heart muscle, which will decrease the pain of heart disease for the patient. Candidates for the TMR procedure include patients shown to have ischemic heart disease, history of previous heart surgery or angioplasty, or those told that nothing further can be done to improve their disease. However, TMR is not an option for those patients who have severe damage to their heart muscle due multiple heart attacks, and those whose heart muscle have no area of ischemia.

Alternatives to Coffee & Tea

This summer is a milestone season for us.  It is the first time we have attempted to wean ourselves off commercially prepared coffee and teas.  For me,  coffee has not been an issue.  I have, at least twice each year, gone “cold turkey.”  Whenever my coffee consumption reaches five or more cups on a daily basis, it is time to give up the addiction.  The withdrawal can be a bit troublesome, at first, but it is worth the effort to feel “clean” and invigorated.  For my wife, giving up coffee completely has not worked well.

However, she has adapted to tea alternatives eagerly.  By far, her favourite has been rose hip & ginger tea.

We dry all our wild harvest plants using screens, wind and sun.  The exceptions are late season harvests, like hawthorne berries, blueberries and mountain ash, which we dry using a dehydrator.

Rose hip & ginger is prepared, after drying, by using a small chopper, and mixing one piece of crystallized ginger with a half cup of rose hips.  The result is pleasant-tasting, and excellent for blood or kidney issues.

Hawthorne tea is prepared the same way.

Some of the other teas that we have harvested and consumed this summer are raspberry/strawberry leaf combinations, goldenrod tea (using the flowers & leaves), wild mint teas,  cranberry, saskatoon,  seneca,  spruce bud (a lemony taste), birch bark (bitter, like tonic water),  wild sorrel, tansy (caution: toxic in large quantities), fennel, yarrow and even sagebush flowers.

Coffee substitutes are more challenging.  Do not believe people that tell you that dandelion root is just like coffee.  It isn’t, and if they had actually prepared it, they wouldn’t claim it was.  It has a bitter, almost harsh aftertaste that doesn’t remind anyone of coffee.  However, it may very well keep you awake!

Dandelion root can be prepared in such a manner, though, that it tastes acceptably good, if unlike coffee.  First, wash and dry the root.  Then, cook it in a solar oven or high above campfire heat for a couple of hours, at no more than 300 F.  Crush the root well.  Steeping it, rather than boiling it, seems to eliminate a lot of the bitterness.

For flavour, use hazelnuts, roasted and crushed, or even acorns. Both impart a slightly darker flavour.  To provide a good thickening agent, boil & strain common plantain seeds or cattail root fibers, and mix in with the drink.  It doesn’t taste unlike a sharp=tasting cream, but certainly doesn’t have the  sweet taste.  Cattail root, on its own, is more mellow.

A second coffee alternative is  thistle root (young, not old and sinewy) mixed with  goldenrod flowers.  It has more of the taste of a bitter tonic than coffee, but it is good hot, and good for you!

Don’t expect, regardless of the tea or coffee substitutes that you use, to generate any taste like that of commercial product.  The only thing that actually tastes like coffee is coffee, just like the only thing that tastes like meat is meat, contrary to the claims of shitake mushroom growers or tofu lovers.  If you need exact flavours, use exact product!  Otherwise, enjoy the alternative lifestyle of the coffee or tea  imitator.

How to handle Autism in Adults

The fact is not only do children suffer from autism but also adults do. The number of adults diagnosed autism is increasing. Most of them grew from childhood with the disease into adulthood.  Have a closer look at it and here are some tips for handling adult autism.

First things first, if you have a loved one that has grown into adulthood with the autism, it’s very important that you continue to show them as much love as possible. I know it’s very difficult, but it has to be done. They are your loved ones and will continue to be – with or without autism.

Who knows, something could just develop from the love you give them that will turn things around for good. No doubts, as I said earlier, it can be rather hard caring for an autistic adult, but it can also be rewarding. You will only know it if you take the journey.

There are also adults who suffer more severely from autism and who cannot live on their own.

Such adults may have to be remanded to foster care, or have need of considerable communal sustenance in a suburban neighborhood. When the adult has limited speech patterns, close supervision will have to be kept over them, whether they are in your home, or in a group residence, or some other residential location.

For a fact, adults who suffer from an autism spectrum disorder like Asperger’s syndrome are able to develop out of the ordinary approaches to prevail over problems that they may have with their memory or with understanding emotions in others. That way, they are able to communicate better, and actually appear as though they understand what they are feeling.

Sinus Headache Causes

If you are suffering from sinus headache and have tried many different products over the drugstore counter but still no results, you need to check with your doctor. Symptoms include pain in the forehead and cheeks, which worsens on stopping, lying down or coughing. Make sure you drink enough water to stay hydrated. As mucous thickens, it blocks the sinus and thus causing a headache. At the first signs of a sinus headache you should increase your water intake. If possible stick to clear liquids such as water and tea as these help irrigate the body quickly. The spray has complete instructions on usage but if in any doubt check with your doctor or pharmacist for clarification. Blow your nose initially to clear the nasal passages then do not sneeze or blow your nose directly after applying the Imitrex spray. Sinus headaches usually occur in the morning, upon waking. They typically start with a feeling of pressure in the face and head, and the pain may be more severe when you lean over or lay down. As the sinusitis worsens, the headaches become worse as well. Sinus headache develops because of inflammation and congestion in the sinuses. It is usually described as dull/pressure around the forehead, eyes, cheeks or teeth. Sinus headache lasts for several days but resolves with appropriate treatment. It is important to note that sinusitis headache is not the only symptom of sinusitis. If it is indeed sinusitis, you will experience inflammation and tenderness of tissues around the eyes resulting in swollen eyelids and red eyes. Another sinus headache remedy is to apply a hot wet compress to the face. Wet a washcloth with hot water and fold to fit over the nose and cheeks, putting warmth directly over the sinus and nasal cavities. This will help loosen the mucous and ease the pressure of a sinus headache. People who have trouble with snoring, breathing through their noses, headaches, sleep apnea, or bloody noses may have a deviated septum. The septum refers to the ridge that separates the nostrils; when it is deviated, the top of the ridge leans to the left or right, rather than straight up the center. Taking medication might give you other side effects and doesn’t kill the problems from the roots. Instead, you should use natural remedies for migraines to eliminate them once and for all. To prevent sinus headaches, make sure that you avoid sinusitis by using a humidifier, avoiding tobacco smoke and other air pollution, and by washing your hands often.

Multiple Sclerosis Vision Loss

One of the early symptoms of multiple sclerosis is vision loss; it is usually only temporary and only seems to occur in one eye. Over 80 % of all MS patients report that they have vision problems that may come and go over time. In rare instances these can lead to permanent blindness, but the percentages of this happening are extremely low.

The more common complaints from people with multiple sclerosis are the loss of vision quality. These losses of vision quality can be the result of several different things happening in the body all of which can come and go without warning causing little or no permanent damage in most patients.

Perhaps the most common cause of vision loss in multiple sclerosis patients is Optic Neuritis. This is an inflammation of the optic nerve that occurs when MS attacks the optic nerves. It usually results in graying of your vision, blurred vision, seeing spots or possibly loss of vision in one eye.

On rare occasions it can cause temporary loss of vision in both eyes.

It is usually accompanied by pain around the eyes and possibly a burning sensation. In most cases it will reverse course by itself in a period of time with most of the vision issues resolving themselves within 5 weeks or so. Treatment for this type of vision loss in the multiple sclerosis patients is usually done using corticosteroids administered by injection for the first few days and then orally for up to 4 weeks.

A nystagmus has been found to cause quality loss in the vision of multiple sclerosis patients. The sudden onset of this involuntary jerking motion of the eyes is considered to be an early indicator of the onset of MS in many patients. It can be very mild and have no effect on the person’s vision or it can be severe enough to require the use of medications and special glasses or prisms to correct their vision well enough to function.

If you suspect that you are suffering from either of these eye problems or are experiencing any change in your vision whatsoever see your doctor or optometrist as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of lasting eye damage.
